Q1 What is the Vehicle Licence Online Enquiry Platform?
The Transport Department (TD) has launched the Enhanced Vehicle Licence (VL) initiative from 30 December 2024. The TD will issue a notice showing the latest validity period of the VL to vehicle owners who have successfully renewed their VL, followed by a VL without the expiry date printed thereon, while other information printed on the VL will remain unchanged. Upon the enhancement of the VL, vehicle owners may scan the new QR code printed at the top of the VL and access the TD's Vehicle Licence Online Enquiry Platform for instant checking of its expiry date without pre-registration.
Q2 After the enhancement of the Vehicle Licence (VL), how can registered owners know the licence expiry date of their vehicles?

The Transport Department (TD) has launched the Enhanced Vehicle Licence (VL) initiative from 30 December 2024. The TD will issue a notice showing the latest validity period of the VL to vehicle owners who have successfully renewed their VL, followed by a VL without the expiry date printed thereon, while other information printed on the VL will remain unchanged. Registered vehicle owners may check the licence expiry date of their vehicles through the following channels:

  • After a VL is renewed, the registered owner will receive a Vehicle Licensing Notice ("VLN") which shows the latest licensed period of the vehicle concerned.
  • Through this free online enquiry platform, members of the public may instantly enquire the validity of a vehicle licence without prior registration. Registered owners may further enter the "date registered as owner" to enquire the licence expiry date of their vehicles.
  • Registered owners may register TD's eLicensing Portal for free, and check the details of their licence and permits, including the licence expiry date of their vehicles.
Q3 Why do I have to enter the date registered as owner to enquire the expiry date of the vehicle licence?
In order to protect the interest of the vehicle owner, entering the registration mark of the vehicle on this free online enquiry platform can only enquire whether the licence is valid. If the vehicle owner wishes to enquire the expiry date of their vehicle licence, he/she must enter the "date registered as owner".
Q4 How can I know the "date registered as owner" of my vehicle?
You may find the information from the field "Date Registered as Owner" listed in the right column of the vehicle registration document.
